Why is it not recommeded for car charging? I've used one since 2011 to maintain the battery of my car and had absolutely no problem.

because its delivers low amounts of current and push to maintain a battery's charge over long periods with little to no use. If your wish to charge a battery, you need more amperage and higher voltage (slightly). If you had to charge a dead battery with this device, you'd be pretty sad. If you're wanting to charge fully dead/discharged batteries, i'd recommend something like this guy [amazon.com], which is even cheaper to boot! This is designed to charge batteries. I use mine to charge two deep cycle AMG batteries that i've used in my RV, and out of a wagon with a power inverter.

So if you're wanting to keep your classic car that you rarely drive's battery charged - this is what you want. If you want to charge something like some deep cycles, then you want a charger not a battery tender

This works great on car batteries. At just 750ma, it'll take forever to charge a dead battery, but that's not really what it is made for anyways. If you need to keep a battery topped off during storage, this is one of the better options available.

While many third party seller transactions can be a bit iffy, this seller, Nutrend, is a subsidiary of Newegg so there shouldn't be any problems.

Thanks O P!!! In for one. However, I am not happy with the sales tax.

They charged the tax and then deduct the promo. Sounds petty, but they overcharged me 30cents. Are they remitting that to the state or are they doing creative accounting???
Makes for a nice class action case!!!

You can report that to the state if you believe it's an invalid charge.

I believe that's the proper way to do it. Costco always charges tax on the full amount and then deducts the promo - the signs in the store even warn you that's how it's done. It may vary state to state, but I think most charge on the full amount.

It actually varies from state to state and who is doing the discount. If NE is doing the discount on their own most likely you should not get charged tax, but if that is a "coupon" where the mfgr gives that $ back to ne for their sale - then it's correct.

Last one I bought was much cheaper made than the one a couple years prior. Seems they really started cheaping out on materials. Feels like the thing won't last. I've only used it once so far and have it in another state so don't know, just going off feel and physical comparison.

It was based on battery tender's info where it can maintain car battery but not charge.

my state law requires the merchant to charge the sales tax based on the original selling price, BEFORE coupons/discounts/etc... which kind of sucks....
