You guys waiting for a deal on the 1.2 will be doing so for a loooong time. Anyone willing to pay $1k more (at least) for a 1/3 stop of difference and an 'L' should have a pretty specific reason for doing so. As in, you're a highly dedicated/professional photog. That's the price difference for one lens...

For everyone else: Seriously don't worry about the L lens. This 1.4 is a great deal, and the step from the 1.8 to the 1.4 is a *much* better bang for your buck than the 1.4 to the 1.2.

The lens seems to have a lot of issues with autofocus. Read the '1 star' reviews on Amazon.

I've been using this lens exclusively on my sl1 for past two years. Love it. I bought it on a deal and this is 30 bucks less than I paid. Repped

Decent price. Better at $200. Reason being that its not a significant improvement over the 1.8. Save your money, keep the 1.8. save for the 1.2

Agree. 1.8 is a decent lense. But I'll wait for a 1.2 deal instead of upgrading to 1.4.

Have had two - one died with autofocus issues in its first year and was replaced by Canon. Replacement is exhibiting coma like one of the focus elements has wriggled out of place. Two friends have had similar issues with the lens Would recommend skipping this and instead either waiting for a deal on the Canon f/1.2 or spending the money on the Sigma 1.4 ART DG which is considered to be a miracle lens.

Really debating should I swap out my sigma 50mm 1.4 to this one. I have RMA my lens once with Sigma and seems that the problem arise recently again with the common focusing problem again.

What the hell? The jump from the 1.4 to 1.2 is way larger than the jump from 1.8 to 1.2. Most people say to avoid the 1.4 and get either the 1.2 or the 1.8, depending on how serious you are.

The 1.4 is definitely worth this price, and it's a decent lens, but good god the 1.2 is a classic.

I love the images from this lens. But the focusing helicoid is very soft and fragile. The lens extends out of the body when focusing, and if that part gets bumped hard enough, it won't focus right again unless you get it serviced. I sent mine in 3 times in a row and Canon could not fix it. They finally sent me a new one to replace it. Still, love the images that I get from this lens.
