Amazon sell it for $225, thought it's decent deal, not sure what do those down votes mean.

Motherboard will cost more. If you OC on 7600k and 7640x at the same time, then they are equivalent on cpu part. If you don't OC, then 7640x is slightly better. Further, SuperMicro Z170 board is 60 brand new on Newegg, what's the price of the cheapest X299? I guess at least 160. 7640x also doesn't have the integrated gpu which worth at least 30 bucks. The encoder and decoder are very useful when you streaming video or watching vp9 video on Youtube. Paid 100 more and lose 130, at least I don't think this platform worth. If you considering resell the cpu, then maybe it's a deal.

Emmm, I was talking about deal itself, 30% OFF should be a good deal.

And it's worth for someone had X299 motherboard already.

If I remember correctly, X299 supports more PCI-E lanes, more SATA ports, and Optane support, some people care about those differences I guess.

Not good value, no cooler. AMD R5 2600 all day at this price range, 6c / 12t versus intel 4 core.

To be fair - drop the quad core specific tests and the AMD mops the floor with the Intel part except in the single threaded tests.

If someone got the x299 board less than or equal to 60, then it worth. If someone already has a x299 build, why should he/she downgrade that build? Some x299 board only support kabylake-X and some only support skylake-X, and only skylake-X has the extra features such as vroc, quad-channel memory, more pcie-lanes. 7640X and 7740X are kabylake-X, the most ridiculous extreme cpu. BTW, Amazon always overprice the items, for example, when 7700k sold for 289~309 on eBay in the entire 2017, Amazon sold them for 330~350.

This is a "good" price for this CPU, but it is a product that has no market. Intel makes some pointless shit sometimes.

Uhh, read what you posted again?

You are saying the Intel is faster in single core and quad core operations, but loses when an application can utilize all 6/12 on the AMD chip... Of course it (AMD) does... but the majority of applications are designed for single/quad.

My advice? Save your money and pickup a gen1 Ryzen 7 if you need core count. They will continue to drop and will offer the best price-performance ratio (when on sale)

I have one from my craigslist, not cheap as $60 but still less than $100, I would not consider SuperMicro as a reliable brand, so the comparison is kinda meaningless.

The $178 i5-8400 six core is a better buy IMO:

Cheaper motherboards too.

SuperMicro is one of best server part brands, very reliable but this brand seldom make consumer level products so most people maybe never heard of it.
