It's just a marketplace, like amazon, that I guess is trying to do group buys, like what Massdrop originally did, but it looks like instead of directly through the manufacturer it's through the seller, which makes no sense to me really.

What you originally tried to do was get enough buyers that you could contact the manufacture directly for a wholesale price. Cut out the middle man.

I jumped on it, the seller is USA Supply Source, which seems to be legit. Has a site and big store on amazon.

Though, I don't like how at checkout the fine print shows 15 percent will be added on for taxes and shipping. And how they're making you believe the price might go down lower. I see nothing indicating how many purchases it would take to get at whatever price.

Seems Legit. the fineprint says 15% pre-authorization until the power deal meets its requirements(in this case it did). If the quantity is not met then the power deal fails and the pre-auth money is released.
if it goes through successfully, they charge you the power deal price.

The price going down more is skeptic as it is upto the seller to lower the price. which i doubt they would.
I bought 3 with my CITI card to bank on extended warranty and 90 day return guarantee, just in case.

Does anyone have experience with mass save energy rebate program? Would buying this deal qualify for the $100 rebate?

Yes. You will need the original sales receipt showing proof of payment, equipment type, make, model, price and date of purchase.

Does this need a C wire for power? I have an Ecobee 4 to install but lack a C wire so I have to use their adapter.

For some areas there is rebate. Go to Nest website and after entering your zip, you will find the available discount for your area. e.g. GA Power customer, can get $100 instant discount for 3rd Gen model and it will cost you $150. For Model E, it is 50% discount on the original price. In other word, they are offering 50% off up to $100. i got one 3rd gen like that and they were throwing google mini for free during Nov. Right now the free google mini is not offered but still the other discount is available. I am planning to get Model E with 50% off

It may or may not work without a "C" wire. Without a "C" wire, the internal battery charges by leaking a small amount of current through the control wires. If your furnace controls are very sensitive to changes in voltage, it may cause problems.

I installed mine a few days ago without a "C" wire and it seems to be functioning just fine.

I do not think so:
To order through this online catalog you must be a residential customer of one of the participating utilities or energy efficiency providers with a delivery address in Massachusetts. MassSave is an initiative sponsored by Massachusetts' gas and electric utilities and energy efficiency service providers, including Cape Light Compact, Eversource Electric, National Grid Electric, Unitil Electric, Berkshire Gas Company, Blackstone Gas Company, Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, Eversource, Liberty Utilities, National Grid, and Unitil. The sponsors of Mass Save work closely with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources to provide a wide range of services, incentives, trainings, and information promoting energy efficiency that help residents and businesses manage energy use and related costs.

On some systems You can use a g wire for a c. You lose the ability to run only the fan

I just moved back to Massachusetts and I'm looking at this to claim that sweet $100 rebate [masssave.com], but when I try to checkout with any MA address, nothing happens after I click "Submit Power Deal"

In the item description the last line is highlighted in red:
Quote :
Nest Thermostat E White Programmable

Shipping Method:Standard Ground
The seller for this item has not specified a shipping method.

I put in my old out of state address and the problem went away, but neither my current nor previous address in Massachusetts were accepted.

What is needed to setup a nest account and to remove the device from being linked with an account. I was thinking for in a rental situation so landlords can see the temp (cold temp warnings) but also so tenants can get use of it without worry of the last tenant messing with your temps.
