Was going to get one but read the reviews and seems like this one isn't as secure as other type of locks. A lot of pictures of peoples locks who were cut. Looks like this is a pass

Thanks OP! I Always buy about ten of these when they pop up... I got a bike shop in San Diego that gives me beach cruisers for 90 bucks a piece for my vacation rentals but they charge me $50 for a lock!

These are great deterrents for would be thieves, just don't lock things you would miss if stolen.

Not for something that will actually be a theft deterrent. Locks are very much a "get what you pay for" kind of thing.

Kryptonite builds a line of locks ranging from weakest to strongest: Keeper -> Kryptolok -> Evolution -> New York.

The Evolution line is considered practically bolt-cutter proof, while locks from the lines below it aren't. But, a Kryptolok U-lock might be good enough for an area where professional thieves aren't an issue,

Yeah, I think this is sufficient for riding to the corner store or the gym for an hour or two in the middle of the day. Maybe not so much for locking your bike outside overnight..

At least, that's what I'm hoping.

Best Bike Lock review: http://thebestbikelock.com/best-u...-2-review/

"How secure is it?
With a 13 mm hardened steel shackle, the Kryptolok should repel all but the biggest bolt cutters. The reinforced, hardened crossbar is pretty heavy duty and won't be easily defeated by hammers or other brute force attacks.

And the high security disk style cylinder is both pick and drill resistant.

However, the steel used in the Kryptolok isn't as high quality as that used in more expensive Kryptonite locks and the shackle isn't double bolted. This means the Kryptolok will be more susceptible to cutting and leverage attacks.

It also comes with a 4 foot long, 10 mm thick cable which can help secure your wheels or seat. Bear in mind though: this cable can be cut through in seconds and really offers zero practical security.

All in all, the Kryptolok is a mid-security lock. It's not a lock for expensive bikes in high risk areas. But for lower risk areas, more modest bikes and short stops it should offer more than enough protection."

I just bought a few u-locks over the weekend as I needed a new one for my bike. Looked at this model and liked the price but it has a staggering amount of bad reviews on Amazon. Ordered anyway just to see.

Lock in this deal feels like absolute garbage, not even close to the quality of my Fuhgaddeabout it NY lock by Kyptonite, though obviously those are pricier.

Ended up returning this item and sticking with the Sigtuna lock that I ordered alongside it. Similar price prior to the sale, feels much stronger and has much better reviews. Was genuinely astonished at how cheap the lock felt. A friend recommended the Sigtuna and said it has survived attempted theft with both bolt cutters and a drill. It could probably be cut but any lock can, it's unavoidable.

Kryptonite usually makes solid products but I would stay far away from this lock if you want actual security. Peace of mind wise it's fine, as it will deter opportunity theft, but it can be broken easily. Also the warranty/insurance is a total joke.

How much do you value not getting your bike stolen?
