I have one of these and I really like it, paid a lot more than this for it. This is a really good deal at $125.00. This is a front and rear camera, not just the front.

It is powered by wiring it into your car, the battery is a backup battery so that if you wire it to a switchable source it will be able to record for a period of time without power. I have no idea why you think that is a bad thing, all my other dash cams did not have battery backup and simply died when the car was turned off, seems like this is much better, at least to me it is.

I pulled the trigger at this price for a decent dual channel cam.

Battery backups in a dashcam are typically very bad ideas. Li-Ion or Li-Poly batteries cannot handle the 120F+ temps of enclosed cars during summer months of southern US states. Batteries claim they will handle 160+ but that's simply a lie. Batteries will bulge and explode. Battery fires are hot smoldering fires + synthetic interior of most cars = $50K bonfire.
Safer choices for warm climates are cams with CAPACITORS instead of batteries.
Batt dashcams aren't trash, but the do require users being mindful of climate when being used.... store in glove compartment on very hot days, always crack windows, etc...
