If you do any high-end production work (video editing, cg rendering, etc), the 1950X is about the most beastly CPU you can get for less than a thousand dollars. For reference, it gets a PassMark score of about 22,000. Not really neccesary (or even beneficial) for a lot of general use such as gaming, but when encoding and rendering speeds matter, it's a wonderful chip.

Too bad the motherboards for it are still usually at least a few hundred dollars, and RAM is still fairly expensive (especially if you want to go quad channel on this!).

***Actually just saw Amazon is selling an 4x8gb ddr4-2400 kit for $284.50 today, not a bad price for 32GB GB of quad Channel memory: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00UFF84G2

Problem is threadripper benefits a lot from fast memory 3200/3600.

Sounds perfect for a Fortnite build.

Sounds nice to use with the unraid os and a nvme ssd setup, especially raid 0 or 1+0. Ecc capable motherboard preferred though for some.

True, but with main board still better than any Intel for the price.
