They are shady. Been acquired a few times. I don't know who owned them now.

This is a great laptop. I bought mine 5 years ago from Dell and its still going strong. It was $1200 retail at the time and I got it for half the price refurbished.

Starts up fast. Haven't had any problem with it so far.

I even took it on a 6 months backpacking trip through Asia.

Showed it to people here and there and everyone was amazed at the flipable screen and tablet mode.

Just remember that the RAM is not upgradable. They are soldered straight on to the motherboard.

My laptop's configuration is i5, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD. If you just use it as an ultrabook, this will do just fine.

While traveling with the laptop, I wished I had 8GB RAM and the larger SSD version. But that's only cause I had taken a ton of pictures on the trip and I was doing photo edits on it.

Touch screen works great and came in very handy when you just want to scroll while laying in bed or just dont want to use the keyboard/mouse pad for scrolling/browsing. It comes with on touch screen keyboard software but I dont use it much.

This is a XPS line laptop so the quality is much better than the typical laptop.

Great deal and laptop imo.

Curious if there are any newer laptops out there with this good of a quality built, all the features this has, light weight and still keep it at a low price point. I dont think I have seen any comparable to this.

What about the SSD? Is that upgradeable?

That's such a bummer to hear. They were the first go to tech company I bought stuff from when I built my first PC 20 years ago.

Hmm, I've been looking for a laptop for my daughter who is starting high school next year. Her little Asus tablet isn't going to cut it, and this might be a good (and cheap) upgrade for her. If I use my AMEX, I'll get another year on the warranty, too.

I'm trying to find a downside because I was planning to give her my current Asus Ultrabook and buy a new one for myself. Big Grin

Grinds my gears when a company lists a laptop and doesn't tell you battery life

It is upgradeable. You will need to take out the entire bottom cover to get to it. The bottom cover is screwed on using six-star screws. So you will need to have that screwdriver. Otherwise it's pretty straight forward to upgrade with youtube videos out there showing how.

Been looking for an option that would be a little beefier than a chromebook on travels, and this seems to fit the bill. In for one, and thanks for sharing!

Update 4/28 - Just got notified that stock is backordered.

Update 5/1 - Aaaand my order was cancelled from their end. Someone was saying something about the reliability of Tiger Direct..?
