I know this is not a hot deal, so please feel free to move to the more appropriate forum.

Amazon announced at the shareholder meeting today it is increasing the price of Amazon Price starting 5/11. The new price will be $119. The current subscription price is $99 / yr.

The new annual fee will apply to current Prime members starting with renewals June 16th of this year.

If you are a shareholder for them, did they mention what the increase would help perhaps add more services or benefits for customers?

Yes, you can send yourself "gift of prime" and save it until next year. Keep the email, then let the membership expire. Go to email and click on the button to apply the membership and you should have it applied automatically for another year. I did it last Feb with a 3 year old email I luckily found when I paid $79 and it worked.

You will find "Gift of Prime" under top menu "Gift Cards", then go to side bar menu under "Special Features". Should be last one on list.

You can set delivery of the Gift of Prime to next year on a specific date so that you dont forget you have it sitting in email box somewhere or misplace it. I set mine for 1st of my membership month which is Feb 2019.

This. This is going to cost them way more than the $19 they are raising their price because instead of buying several items a week I will be forced to buy elsewhere or most likely not at all.
