Instead of cluttering your kitchen draw with all these gadgets, using any old knife you may already have...works just fine

Agreed... This is one of the most useless kitchen utensils out there. Literally creating a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

I couldnt disagree with you more.

Cutting Avacados is one of the most injury prone kitchen activity you can imagine.

This is about safety not drawer filling. If you eat avacados on a regular basis, this tool is a must. Worth its weight in gold.

Lol, basic rule of knife skills. Cut away from your fingers and keep the fingers out of the blade's path.

There is no disclaimer, you can't cut yourself using this tool.

I eat avocados almost daily and have yet to come near my fingers even once.

But if you feel the purchase justified, by all means, knock yourself out.

EDIT: The article states
Quote :
The problem, Sharma explained, is that people tend to cut into an avocado while cupping it in their hand.
So, don't cup and don't put your fingers in the blades path.

agreed. I'm pretty good with a knife and know how to properly cut an avocado, but i picked this up at Marshalls a few months back and love it. this is so much easier and safer to use

use a kitchen towel when holding the avocado if you're going to hold it. especially when attacking the pit.

I have these cool little free plastic things I get from fast food establishments (real slickdeal freebie) that do the job. Usually in white or black, but available in other finishes too!

For those who have figured out how to safely cut an avocado only the banana slicer gadget is more useless and this will end up in a landfill. This is also more difficult to clean than a knife. Quite useless for any competent person. Perhaps its good for kids who want to help their parents with food prep.

In 30 years never had an injury from cutting an avocado and I eat them just about every day. Apparently some people can't seem to figure it out though.
