Anyone know if this drone hovers in place? Does it have "headless" mode?

Has headless, doesn't have altitude hold (aka hover). The tarantula is huge, carries alot, has decent range (150+ yards after antenna mod) and runs for a long time on the included battery. Flying it reminds me of those large Huey helicopters from the Vietnam war era. 3 different speeds (mellow, medium, & caffeinated). In caffeinated, it's a bull in a China shop.

I've crashed mine into a few palm trees and it still trucks along. If you're looking to learn quads, you really don't want all those GPS, headless or hold features. If you're looking for a cheap started for a camera platform, I suggest the Syma X8 series. Or if you're just looking to learn flying, the Syma X5 series. Both are sturdy, have lots of available parts, and great starters.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have one of these Tarantula X6. I also have a syma X8 (and and X8H). These were my practice drones. I used these to learn to fly and control the drones in the air. The do not "hover" (except for the Syma X8H with an altitude hold) but, I feel, this is better so you can learn to 'feel' the drones. When I did crash mine, it was not as painful as if I would have crashed a costly drone (like a Phantom Pro or a Mavic Pro -- which I also have both).
I do like the tarantula over the Syma. It is wider and lighter. It takes off and responds faster (in my opinion). It is more fun to fly around the farm.
I rigged it up with velcro to carry a runcam which did an ok job recording, but for FPV, it is no comparison to a DJI. The Syma X8 has a camera, but I actually took it off and have never used it.
For the price, it is a good practice drone. I bought it at about $50 over a year ago.

Blue one still available for 19.98 after promotion. Slept on it and decided I've wasted 20 bucks on worse things.
