6 lbs + the brick. May be an issue if you walk to school 10 miles uphill barefoot backwards in a blizzard carrying your little brother.

Something to note: The three configurations listed in the post all have 8GB of RAM composed of 2x 4GB sticks. So if you wanted to upgrade to 16GB, you'd have to buy the whole 16GB instead of just another 8GB stick. What's strange is that the cheaper configurations use 1x 8GB stick. I'd guess you'd have dual-channel with the 2x 4GB, but the upgrade path isn't as good.

Also, the G7 doesn't have a fingerprint reader while the G3 and G5 do. Again, very strange decision by Dell.

Somewhat worth noting is the supported ram speed of 2666MHz with these new processors. (This is the ram Dell is selling with these laptops)

What's the downside of this G7 comparing to the Dell business lines? It looks low key enough to be bought to a meeting. It definitely has great specs for its price. Well, it's almost 6 pounds but for this specs it can be tolerated. 4 cells battery is pretty low.

I'd have no issue bringing it to a meeting unless the fan is obnoxiously loud. The g3 looks like most laptops

It is not the number cells but the Whr rating of the battery. This one is 54 Whr - my guess is 4-5 hours for standard web browsing or running an editor etc. You will pay more the business line but get a much better warranty and support usually.

The biggest benefit is the 8th gen processors which changes it from quad core to hexcore, a pretty big performance boost seen so far. Also if you like blue Smilie

Yeah, if you do CPU heavy stuff sometimes like I do, the 6 core CPU is a big boon.

Couple graphics card questions.

Are the 1060's in this the same speed as the desktop 1060 versions? I know in past generations that laptop GPUs were slower.

Will the prices drop on gaming laptops like this if bitcoin mining slows down? People are saying it will slow down.

For about the same price you're trading 8gb of RAM to get the newer generation processor that has 2 extra cores compared to a 7700HQ

They are not. These are even a bit slower than a normal "laptop 1060" being a Max Q design. Although they run COOL. Which is a plus. I can't give you a number on what percent slower it is than desktop, but the numbers are out there. I own the 7577 with the same GPU and it is fantastic.

As for prices.. I doubt it. This is the lowest Gaming Laptops have been in years. This will max out all games on high or just about. For under $1000? I could be wrong but the only thing bringing down prices is the next series of GPUs and the only reason for that is they'll have higher performance.
