TMobile To Buy Sprint.... Freedompop Relies On Sprint As Their Primary Carrier..... RingPlus

-14 Deal Score

We need to keep an eye on this for all the people that use Freedompop

I am one of them and I know that freedompop has other options for carriers but Sprint is the one that gives them the deals necessary for the free services.

Without Sprint that means they can't offset any other costs for their free service.

Without their Free Service they are just another MVNO and the free plans will disappear.

I was a member of Freedompop before RingPlus
I was still a member of Freedompop while I signed up for RingPlus's insane deals

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Just having that feeling

and for me dropping 4 old phones onto paid plans is not an option I would probably fork out for a newer phone and go with an unlimited plan on some provider...

Probably ATT since it would mean I would get DirecTVnow discounts and I don't use cable

I didn't TD, but I'm guessing it's because your post belongs in the lounge rather than deal talk. Move it there for discussion and have a good day.

that makes zero sense ... and Freedompop is a common deal on SD ..

This is the appropriate place for it not in The Lounge where people talk about all kinds of crazy stuff

True, the product or service you are referencing is a common deal, but your post is not discussing or promoting a deal. You are discussing some news about a future (possibly unlikely) merger of two companies and how they may affect freedompop's free service. There is no deal here, so it's not deal talk, understand?

I don't know man, I got in on the free prem. Voice deal and talk/text have worked without fail, we are in a very good sprint area and kiddos have loved it, internet was great as well, the more competitors the better, and yes I believe freedom pop will no longer be free, I cannot see how Tmo will support both their own 200 mb tablet free plan and fpop

Been using FreedomPop free plan for almost 4 years now as a GPS tracker device. Let see how it goes, it will be awhile before anything happens or if the FCC even allows it.

First of all the premise is wrong. Freedompop LTE gsm service uses AT&T network, not Sprint. And it's free.

Secondly, if they do merge chances are Sprint will have even more excess cdma capacity than they do now, which probably is what drives their arrangement with Freedompop, Tello, etc.

Thirdly, some people thumbs down the word "ringplus" and to a lesser extent "freedompop, without any regard to what the topic is.

If TMobile buys Sprint then Sprint will be let out of all of the free to little cost Data contracts that the MNVOs have been grandfathered in for years..

If you didn't know this then you are not making judgements based on knowledge...

Sprint had to offer free data to nonprofits and low cost data to resellers because Sprint merged with another provider many years ago.

If the company is now TMobile which it will be.. all of those contracts get disolved

this is how Freedompop and previously RingPlus offered free service.. it was and is VOICE OVER DATA.. not standard Voice

You mention Tello .. I don't know of any other provider but Freedompop that offers FREE plans if you do please advise us all so maybe we will have an alternative if Sprint / TMobile fails on all of us... and no ... low cost is not free.... free is free

you are so wrong about so much it's not worth the effort.

But just one thing..the terms of the merger have to be approved by the government so no one, not even Sprint or T-Mobile knows what will happen to the agreements you know so much about.

It's best too wait and see after the merger is approved. I'm sure they don't wanna cut it off completely but it's possible they might strangle it slowly. Anyone remember tmobile when it got metro too start down cdma?. It was left on with so little spectrum capacity that it made everyone that had the phones too finally upgrade.. this will prob be more likely shared with the rest of the Sprint community over 3 more years. After that point won't really matter about FreedomPop cause its phones won't work on Sprint. Now too say that FreedomPop is goin completely that just isn't happening if anything tmo might use it too there advantage.

when they implement 5g they won't be getting rid of 4g for many many years.. 5g doesn't even have one prototype phone ready for it yet.. the ones that are out use multiple carriers to bond and they are lab phones not ones that can fit in your hand.. they don't even have processors that can do 5g yet..

so thats not going to be an issue for freedompop

RingPlus was real voice. At some point they added wifi calling as an option (that still used your plan minutes though).

I wouldn't have switched to RingPlus from FreedomPop if the call quality wasn't way better, and the FP app didn't kill the battery so quickly.
