Amazon has Raleigh Cadent 3 [amazon.com]
and Alysa 3 [amazon.com]
hybrid bikes for $279.99 with free shipping with Prime.
MSRP is $699.99. Even with the Raleigh employee purchase program, these bikes were priced at $419, and because they are 2017 models, neither are currently available on the Raleigh website.
Excellent specs for the price:
- Shimano Claris derailleurs and shifters; 2x8 drive train (16 speed)
- Carbon forks
- Hydraulic disc brakes
- Weinmann U28 double-wall rims
These might even be over-spec'd for basic commuting, and are several steps above anything that you could find in a big box store.
They come 85% assembled, but you will either have to bring them to a bike shop to finish the job (probably $60-$100), or do it yourself (my wife and I purchased from Raleigh last year and it took about 90 minutes each to put them together with no previous experience).
