download the free trial from Adobe. Buy this. Don't open it. If you like it, keep, if not return.

Can anyone give the poweruser descriptions of differences between the Elements versions and CC or CS versions of Photoshop and Premiere?

Asking for a friend who might want legitimate copies...

That what I thought too. However, there was no 2016 or 2017 version. So, I am not sure when we will see the next elements version.

I think they do release a new version every year. The last version I bought was Adobe Photoshop Elements 15 & Premiere Elements 15, which came out in 2016.

I assume they switched to 20xx numbering with Photoshop Elements 2018
& Premiere Elements 2018, which came out last year (2017).

There's also a downloadable version for the same price:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...ts_18.html

Might be helpful for those of us without DVD-drives.

Edit: Actually, scratch that. The disc version comes with both the Windows and Mac edition, whereas with the download version you have to choose between both OS'es. Supposedly, you can use the serial number on the box to unlock the the trial version (source [adobe.com]) so no problem if you don't have a drive.

In for one, thanks OP!

If you're a student/teacher.... you can save an additional $9.00. (This is for the Mac/Win disc version):

Poweruser? No. But since no one answered you...
Elements is a seriously downgraded version of PS.
Will it do most of what the avg. Slickdeals shopper wants? Yes.
Thing is, a lot of the normal Photoshop functionality is in there.. it's just not unlocked. There is a $12 3rd party program called Elements+ that unlocks it and makes this a whole lot closer to PS. The interface isn't beautiful but it's functional from the little I messed with it. There are quite a few videos for it too.
If he doesn't need the video editing, the reg. version of PS Elements only, was just on sale for $59, and will be more often soon. It's getting dated.

Honestly, if this "friend" is used to the PS interface, and likes it, Affinity Photo ($40) is closer than Elements.
