I did not see this already posted.

RIDGID 9 Gal. 4.25-Peak HP Wet Dry Vac, Special Buy at $39.97 with free ship to home (or free pick-up in select stores)

4.2/5 stars on HD, 778 ratings

From the HD website:
  • Great for general cleaning with large 1-7/8" diameter hose
  • Accepts RIDGID dust bags for easy and clean debris disposal
  • Features the RIDGID lifetime warranty

This has a larger diameter hose than the equivalent consumer-grade SV models of wet/dry vacs and does not seem to have the problem with weak top latches that many reviewers have reported with the SV units.

The reason these are being discounted is because they came out with a new redesigned 9 gallon model.

If I recall correctly, Ridgid vacuums and their warranty are still handled by Emerson, while power tools are all TTI, so the vac lifetime warranty is significantly different from the power tool lifetime service agreement.

Specifically, the vac warranty does not cover wear and tear (which may have been the case with your motor) but would cover defects like your bad impeller.

"Failures due to misuse, abuse or normal wear and tear are not covered by this warranty."

you can say that about any company's warranty... doesn't really mean much.
i've had nothing but good experiences with their tool LSA, i would expect this to be similar.

I'd probably spend a little more on one with a 2.5" hose, but these still work well enough if you're mainly using it for cleaning your vehicles and picking up sawdust.

It's easy for them to deny the warranty

The deal comes at the right time because I need a vac to do a deep clean of my water heat. Will this one work if I remove the drain valve? What additional accessories do I need to buy?

Also how does this Rigid compare to the following Craftsman? I have points etc to make their price comparable. Thanks!

Ridgid and Craftsman are basically the same vacuum but with different labels. The accessories are swappable between the two, as long as the hose diameter is the same. The particular Craftsman that you're linking to has the bigger 2.5" hose, whereas the Ridgid in the OP has the smaller 1-7/8" hose

Shopvacs and 1 or 2 other products are the only ones not warrantied in store if that matters

In the last yr less than 2yr old ridgid motor or switch died, warranty denied. 1yr old shopvac impeller exploded, called and no proof only questions, they sent new motor unit

My 6 gallon died so I was sending it in for warranty repair, then after boxing just the head unit, it was $36. To ship it in and they could still deny the warranty...A useless warranty because of high shipping costs

This size time will hook up to some smaller miter saws, but if you want to use it for dust collection on most table saws, etc, you need the 2-1/2" hose. Or an adapter.

Anything heavy had a useless warranty. Got it, thanks.
