Keep in mind this is a crop sensor lens, which is great if thats what your camera is. Just be aware.

Not really... Cannot compare a 4x dedicated tele to a 20x all in one. This lens is for amateurs/beginners who want a lens for any application and will sacrifice iq.

Once you get into the 200-400mm range, image quality goes downhill. It's to be expected with such a wide range though.

Here's a comparison to the Sigma 18-300mm just for example.

I have a 10 year old canon 70 to 300 IS USM lens that is starting to act up.

Would this be a good replacement?

Dont really go by the lab report. When u look at the images globally u cant really tell the difference unless u take large prints. 18 to 400 is an incredible range plus this lens is not heavy. Great for walk around.

Rule of thumb: the wider the range, the harder it is going to make. You get the convenience, but just don't expect great result

This covers the range I'm looking for but I think I'll stick to the 24-70 and 70-200. Any deals on the Tamron 24-70 G2?

I don't know that much about cameras and lenses but I know enough about them this range at this price can't be that good, of course I might be wrong but I suspect I'm not. If it is good then this would be one hell of any only lens to own if you could have only one lens.
