After using the Arlo gen 1 for 2 years and just recently picking up the Arlo Pro for my aunt, the newer camera with rechargeable battery + USB port is just so much nicer. Batteries cost about $5 per camera for every 3-6 months, so I have to turn down sensitivity and reduce up-time to conserve battery.

I'm debating to just get rid of my complete set of Arlo gen 1

This bundle also doesn't make sense since you can only have up to 5 cameras on the free subscription. So you'll either paying $10/mth to use that additional camera (with more premium features) or you'll be stuck with one extra camera which you'll have to sell or gift to the in-laws.

Ditto. Rechargeables work just fine, as long as they are decent quality. No complaints with my Gen 1 system, though if I were in a high crime area I might be more concerned with upgrading.

Yup, exactly. I use mine primarily to get alerts of people coming and going from my property. If you need video for crime, a true 24/7 4k system would be highly recommended. At that point, might as well just move.

Can someone give me ideas on waterproof cameras to monitor my yard when my kids are out playing. I don't care about the security function. I just want to be able to view 3 or 4 wirelss cameras live simultaneously.

is Arlo the only set.that can do this? I looked at blink but it seems you can watch live feed up to 30 seconds at a time.

Hi Pet,

Delinquents will find you, good or bad neighborhoods.
Just a question of frequency and quality of loot available to them.

HI Z16a

I would probably not value the Arlo Q that high. You can find some really nice IP PoE cameras at the price point which are significantly superior to the Arlo Q.

Note - anyone picking up the Gen-1 remember to include the price of getting rechargeable batteries... here's a recent deal

Hi Tom,

Live view sucks up the battery life quickly in these wirefree cameras. You will at the minimum want a wired to power camera w/either wired for data ( better ) or wifi for data ( less reliable )

Hi Aznxenon,

Definitely agree with the gen-1 issues.

note on the 6 camera packages from Netgear I recall seeing posts here stating that those kits include exceptions to the 5 camera limit for the free tier.

Yes, all consumer battery powered solutions are not designed for extensive live viewing.

take a look at the following and look at the end of the thread for recent IP PoE deals which we've seen posted here on SDs. Also do take a look at the wiki for hopefully useful notes:
