How did you figure out the amount of stock? That's a useful skill.

Yes. They are basically impossible to find in a retail store. And they go for a markup on eBay of about double this price. And they won't be producing them anymore in about a month.

Toy companies have weird distribution strategies. I will admit, I don't get it.

I was adding different amounts to cart. I ended up at 540 and it said I was over the order limit. At 541 it said insufficient stock. So I figured there were 540.

After fees and shipping, you probably can make $3-6 each on eBay.

Well that's ingenious. Thanks for the heads up. And now the number is 505 so I think your technique checks out.

I've had no problems finding any of this wave. I hope the resellers choke on them in their quest to make 3 bucks.

I've been able to get them online but not at a retail store. I've only seen Snoke and Rey in the wild, that's it. I don't go crazy running around trying to find them but the retail distribution in my area has been rather crappy.

I'll try to explain. Most adult collectors of Star Wars are only interested in Original Trilogy stuff (the first three movies from the 70's and 80's). This figure is from a set/case that was distributed with the following other figures:

  • Snoke
  • Rey
  • Kylo Ren
  • First Order Stormtrooper
  • Jyn Erso

All of the other figures are from the new movies, which the adult collectors do not care about. So they'll be sitting on shelves until they eventually get put on clearance and/or get sent to one of the discount stores like TJ Maxx, Ross, or Tuesday Morning. The only one people want is this guy, because he is from Empire Strikes Back.

Correct. And they pack in two Snokes's and Rey's to a case (I think), but only one Hoth Trooper. Then on their next wave release, they again pack in the the figures that didn't sell the first time and leave out the ones that did (this one).

So yes, their distribution strategy is lacking.

I don't know who makes the decisions on distribution. I don't know if it's Lucasfilm or Hasbro or the retailers (somebody told me it was the big retailers), but someone is in huge denial over how little people care about merchandise for the new Star Wars movies. If you go to any of the ToysRUs going-out-of-business sales, the shelves are still full of The Force Awakens and Rogue One merchandise.

I go to Comic-Con every year and their exclusive stuff is very nice and fly off the shelves, but they treat attendees like shit. I, for one, is tired of their shit. So I agree that management and executives don't really have a pulse on the industry.
