Sorry to be posting this again, but I figure if it helps others enjoy their Sceptre TV more, than it's appropriate information.

At first I hated the sound. The volume levels went from soft to distortingly loud within the first 10 volume increments. I made the changes below and feel it to be such a large improvement that I do not even need a sound bar for everyday viewing.

The TV volume has a volume range of 0-100 and prior to doing this the TV went from soft at 1 to distorted at 10. I got into the in depth settings (Menu + 7343) and went to sound settings, then volume curve and made these adjustments. These adjustments do stay resident in the TV memory, so once they are set you should be good.

You should probably write down your original settings in case you want to go back to it.

I changed my mapping to
0-500
10-600
20-700
30-735
40-770
50-805
60-840
70-855
80-870
90-885
100-900

Sound mode is set to soft. EQ is set to Pop, and surround is on.
Now I have less volume, or at least a slower rise in volume (who uses the TV with volume pegged at 100?), and it's way less distorted.

Anyone else disappointed with the sound out of this TV should try this and see if they don't think it significantly helps the TV sound better.

Has Sceptre improved at all in the past 5-ish years? I have a Sceptre 32" 720P TV that...while it still works...it came with many dead pixels and the quality even back then was disappointing. I'd never buy another Sceptre again, especially with TVs like TCL out there for not much more than this (S series).

I have the 65" walmart special coming up on a year now. Still rocking out without issue.

Quick edit: ive heard they share a few components with lg, and Ive seen lg have issues with their back light. Ive even changed the led backlight on one. I've personally turned down the backlight on all my tvs until 70-50% in an effort to extend their longevity, but if the picture suffers I will keep it closer to 70%. Ive got a 55" sony bravia that has dark areas so I dont think it is exclusive to certain brands.

I've been looking at this tv for the past week, was the same price last Saturday and last month 300, Do you think it'll go down any more? Seems like a steal especially if you get the 2 yr Walmart warranty for $26.

With that being said, How is Walmart with their warranties for items like this? Should your tv crap out, Obviously they won't have this tv any longer so what would happen in that situation??

I have several Sceptre televisions, ages 1 month to 4+ years. I recommend them for the price, have one going bad after 5+ years (backlight going out) hence the one we've had for 1 month.

Edit: Picture quality is good to me, at least as good as my LG that went bad after 3 years and cost a lot more. Audio quality on my last two Sceptres is bad. Bought a soundbar for one and will be buying another soundbar soon.

I used my credit card's extended warranty on this TV and they refunded the money paid for the TV.

The issue with mine was lines of dead pixels developing just after the manufacturer's warranty expired. The TV had lots of light bleed and poor picture but that was "normal".

Bought this when it was still 279. 5+ dead pixels, 3 stuck pixels. Avoid.

I bought a 55 4k Sceptre two black Fridays ago and use it everyday for multiple hours and I don't have any issue with dead pixels. Its not a BAD tv, but I had to buy a sound system for it. The speakers were terrible

I have an 40inch 1080p ocosmo tv (made by Sceptre) and it's been running just fine for the past 3+ years. It's been my primary tv and I have 0 complaints.

EDIT: Like someone said earlier, the speakers are useless, you need an external speaker for sure.

Just returned to Walmart. Not that I use the tv speakers but the volume would go up and down on its own. Felt very cheap. And yes I did turn off the auto volume adjustment settings. Would not recommend. For 50$ more get the $300 hisense. That's what I did.

I bought two of these two years ago. One recently died. It just shut off and won't power back on.

I suggest getting the extended warranty.
