The President of Harvard University stated in 1909 that a person could get the elements of a liberal arts education in a year, by just reading certain books for 15 minutes a day. This became known as "The Harvard Classics" aka "Dr. Eliot's Five Foot Shelf". It's a 51-volume anthology of classic works from world literature, compiled and edited by Harvard University president Charles W. Eliot and first published in 1909.

The TOC might be in Vol 50, per this review [amazon.com]

You can download individual PDF's [myharvardclassics.com] that seem to have TOC's, although I didn't check them all

It's from 1909, so it's in the public domain. $1 worth of credit that you probably got for free for the convenience of having it available on your Kindle/Amazon acct without any extra work.

Good point, that's almost a deal breaker - except I found the list under the Contents section here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvard_Classics Interestingly, this book also includes the entire fiction collection!

I used to have the whole set of these in beautiful hardback. I love that this $0.99 volume includes the Harvard Shelf of Fiction as well. It is a few dollars cheaper than anything comparable on Amazon. Its nice to be able to have them all in one convenient location without a lot of legwork. Thank you!

It looks like a nightmare trying to navigate in the table of contents and trying to figure out what is in each edition. At least that's how the sample is.

If I'm not mistaken, it's the same price from Apple on iBooks right now. I'm pretty sure it's the same book, same publisher, etc. Here is the link:
