I'm wondering if paying $1150 for this laptop is a good deal?

Compare with this $1049 model from Dell if you can get a membership [offers.com](through employer, school, goverment, etc):

http://www.dell.com/en-us/member/...dncwgg205s

* 8th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-8750H Processor (6-Core, 9MB Cache, up to 3.9GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
* 8GB, 2x4GB, DDR4, 2666MHz
* 128GB Solid State Drive (Boot) + 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive (Storage)
* NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 with NVIDIA® Max Q Design technology, 6GB GDDR5 video memory
* 17.3-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display

So I would believe it would come down to if 6hrs(or 12 hrs round trip) driving + $100 was worth a gtx 1070 vs gtx 1060, and 8gb more of ram, and 128gb additional of SSD.

Not worth to drive 6 or 12 hours.
