before everyone asks, long story short- if you want AiMesh, do not buy this. The T-Mobile router has been blocked by Asus, and there are no work arounds with the newest firmwares, and there likely never will be.

If you do not want AiMesh, then this is an AWESOME router for the price.

according to this amazon review it can still be modded to permanently turn it back into a AC68U. Anyone have a link to the instructions?

even if you do that, new asus firmwares will still be able to tell its a tmobile router and it will not allow you to use AiMesh.

This is confirmed by the guy who makes Merlin firmware.

The guy who makes Merlin isn't exactly unbiased, and likes to stir shit. Everything we've seen points to him being wrong. Once there's no difference between the contents of memory on this vs an rt68u, the game is over, modders win, so stop spreading FUD.

AIMesh is currently showing and working fine on my unit and other folks on the latest firmware once the sector of storage used for TMobile specific info was wiped out prior to installing. I don't exactly have anything against Merlin, but he's in ASUS' pocket and has that a pretty typical 'large indy dev better than you' attitude towards people who don't play his way.

I don't know what you think his "good point" was, it doesn't take much searching to find instructions on how to get to the latest firmware with no further issues. If someone who actually owns one of these, as opposed to armchair speculators, is stuck, then I'm happy to go dig up the directions.

AiMesh works fine on my T-Mobile AC1900 on the absolute latest firmware. Use the AiMesh CFE and follow the steps in the previous thread.

If Merlin is giving away his work for free, he deserves to act like dick. If you don't like his way, isn't that personal?

That's a weird stance to take. Nobody has a particular right to hold themselves above people with different views or goals just because they've made something. I don't use Merlin's software (I did very briefly on another router years ago), but when he's participating in communities (that overlap mine) with his posse of users and waves his dick around, I'm going to call it as I see it. Either way this discussion is hardly worth bumping this deal thread over.

I moved on since you sound pretty bitter and jealous, personal much? I don't think you can ever release anything like Merlin did. Until then, just voice your opinion you see fit and try to make yourself sound and feel better.

Yeah, your take is horrible.
