Love it.

I feel compelled to share this...

When I was 14, in August of 1984 I begged my parents to let me go see Huey Lewis in concert. They said "We'll see..." Then one day my dad comes to me and says "We're going to see your show." I was like "WE?" He just nodded and walked away.

The night comes and as we're driving there, he says "You can go run around with your friends when Huey Louie or whoever is playing... but during the opening act you're sitting next to me and listening. As you can imagine, when my dad told me to do something back then I just did it. So... the lights go down, SRV walks out and starts shredding. I sit there, stunned, not knowing what to think.

By the end of that year I never listened to Huey Lewis again, (although I still like him) but became a rabid SRV fan and still am to this day.

True story.

This guy was an absolute monster guitar player. Saw the 'In Step' tour in July 1990 and SRV melted the faces of everyone at Waterloo Village that night, I mean jaws were dropped to the ground during his solos. Joe Cocker opened. Stevie died about a month after that. One of the greatest performances I've ever seen.

I can't remember the last time a slickdeals thread made me happy like this one has. SRV was irreplaceable and I enjoy hearing people talk about how his music touched their lives. Thanks for sharing, y'all.

Another share.
A guy I knew was a roadie for Robert Cray and had met Stevie.
Besides one of the best guitar players, the guy was also a decent human. No star bs.
What a loss.

The post death "The sky is crying" and pretty much anything else he ever recorded is pretty awesome stuff.

Look for SRV soundcheck on YouTube if you haven't seen it.

Saw him in a small place in Austin once. Ridiculous.

Grew up going out to see Danny Gatton play on week nights in local bars with maybe 15 other people in the whole place.

Between the two I've lived a blessed life. ; ) lol

He played several times one month at a little bar I lived next-door to back in the mid 80's. His brother played on alternate weekends. $1 cover, $1 beer. Good times at The Hawks Nest in Waco Texas. I never missed a weekend.

Every time I come across that old episode of him jammin' on Austin City Limits, I can't help but watch it. I still have an old Couldn't Stand the Weather sleeveless shirt as well as an '89/'90 last tour. This man had no music theory but found out a way to play by ear.

Was trying to, but she won't give me that particular CD. What did you ask for?
