Wait ... Canon is lagging WAY behind everyone else in sensor tech, video, in-body stabilization, etc. etc. Their existing user base and amazing lenses are still pluses to go that route but i'd wait it out.

Good deal if you're in the market for a Canon body. If you're NOT already invested heavily in Canon lenses, then wait it out until Canon/Nikon announce their mirrorless plans. No sense in buying a $3k camera and another couple grand in lenses if the mount changes. I was posting the same thing in the D750 thread the other day, but if I had to guess, I would guess Canon will have a simple EF adapter like they do on EOS M50 since EF is relatively capable and fully electronic. Nikon I would bet is going to completely revamp their mount to something new since theirs has a lot of legacy baggage.

Either way, if you have to buy now these are great deals. If you're not invested in Canon lenses, a D850 for a bit more money is far more capable with Nikon also having a stellar lens selection. Sony A7RII is also selling for $2K and has a far better sensor and resolution but you either have to pay through the nose for Sony lenses or use an adapter.

Canon's feeling the heat i'm guessing. Lots of great deals out there right now:

Sony A7RII: 42MP, lots of DR, in body stabilization - $2K
Nikon D750: Still a solid all around camera, 24-120mm lens, Grip, $2K
Nikon D850: Full MSRP @ $3300 but destroys the 5D IV in every way

Keep in mind you're buying into a system, so factor in lenses etc. Canon and Nikon are supposedly going to reveal their FF mirrorless stuff later this year, so the lens mounts *might* change.

IMO Nikon/Sony are pushing the envelope while Canon is lagging far behind in sensors and video. Even the EOS M50 just came out and was needlessly crippled to do heavily cropped 4K without DPAF. Canon still has the best bang for the buck in lenses though with Nikon and Sony appearing to use the Gillette model where you pay through the nose for the blades.

Just suggesting to think the whole system through vs. jumping into a system because the body is discounted by a couple hundred.

Nope, they do deals like this quarterly or semi-annually to clear off their over-produced printers.

I am a canon shooter for 20+ years with quite a few lenses and 600ex rtii speed lights . So for now I am trying to be Canon Strong, but if you not invest in any system, I would definitely recommend go Sony system. Their mirror less FF just so mature now compare to upcoming first gen of canon and Nikon FF. Plus canon is famous for gimping their high end cameras to protect the cinema line. ( 4k crop with motion JPEG bs still piss me off on 5D4).
Sony A7iii is absolutely a beast at 2k price tag . Shot with it for two days and I was sad to give it back lol!

Reminder, the printer is only worth about $60-80, it always has a huge rebate. So not a big factor as a "deal."

I agree that the Sony sensors are better than Canon's, but it's important to note their bodies are not nearly as rugged. While that certainly doesn't matter to some people, professionals may need some of the features Canon provides that Sony does not.

Canon's lens selection is certainly unrivaled and that's probably the biggest reason to be in that ecosystem. The 5d4 is extremely capable, but if you're shooting at that level, you probably know exactly what you want.

I'm interested to see how Sony pushes the industry in terms of sensor tech. Canon has definitely lagged and unfortunately I'm so heavily invested in Canon that it'd be expensive for me to swap. I mostly shoot for my own personal needs, and the business related shoots I do are not so sensitive that I'd benefit from swapping to Sony.

I do think the deal on the 6d2 is excellent, you'd be hard pressed to find those features at that price point elsewhere. The lingering complaint is the DR on that sensor was not an improvement over the Mk1, and lags Sony by a couple of stops. If that matters to you then certainly examine the Sony if you're not heavily invested.

As for the mirrorless options, I'm guessing they'll start out at the high end and gradually come out with more models so as to not cannibalize other items in their lineup. Canon seems to be extremely fearful of having too much portfolio overlap, as evidenced by their lack of 4k video support on several newer models of cameras.

All good points, but I don't think it's wise to compare DSLR and mirrorless cameras. The viewfinder on mirrorless cameras is still nowhere near as good as the actual mirror in response time in low light and continuous shooting. This deal is for Canon DSLRs, not mirrorless. It's pointless to wait for Canon mirrorless if you're after DSLR.

Plus Sony glass is prohibitively expensive compared to Canon.

Like most Canon users I'm disappointed with Canon market segmentation, high prices, slow pace of innovation, and in particular low dynamic range on 6DMii. Having said that every time I try mirrorless I come away being disappointed with the EVF lag while panning and shooting. That, and Quality Canon glass is so much cheaper than Sony's. I'm seriously tempted by the deal on 6DMii over here, despite all of it's flaws,

There's a BIG difference between true professionals who do this for a living and a bunch of people on slick deals buying a camera because it's on sale. Sports is also a whole different animal with most of them using 1DX, D5s and maybe even Sony A9.

Tempting. Can't agree more. Canon is lagging way behind technology compared to Sony or Panasonic but their lenses are way more cheaper than others and dual pixel autofocus is awesome.

As someone who's been with Canon since his first dslr (5DII, 60D, some low-tier body I forget the model, and currently the 5DIII...) this is not even close of an incentive for me to buy another Canon dslr. Do your research folks. Of the major brands (Canon, Sony, Nikon, and I throw Fuji in there as well) Canon is pretty much considered by most to have the worst bodies. But newcomers flock to it because they identify and recognize the name.
