Looking for a low end cell phone

2,842 689 May 11, 2018 at 12:01 PM
Flip phone is ok.

Must be unlocked or TMobile.

My 10 year old flip phone, they are saying is too old for service. Not looking to spend a lot.

Needs to be no more than 5 years old.

EDIT,,, I want to spend under $75 but preferably under $50.

I want to keep my pay as you go plan. I have 930 minutes & add $10 a year and its cheap.

LG G5 H830 maybe a good choice, you have to choose a used one to get it below $75.

How long before it becomes obsolete?

Thanks

I found a local guy that has a g4. TMobile says it should work and last.

Is the g5 lots better or not?

https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/t/11590987 Check this deal,
Cant use a Verizon phone with my 900 minute sim card.

I am leaning toward a new or near new Grandma type flip phone.

$75 in store. I can get a like new one for $40-45 but the reviews are just bad for them.

But, I don't think I want a smart phone because of the learning curve and the short battery life.

I may be coming back around to this choice.

When comparing to the flip phone, which I thought might have more standby time, it does not.
264 hours versus 400 for the LG.

Of course, I have to weigh the frustration factor in because I am just not used to new tech at all.

I can get by that by buying from a "free returns" seller.

The cost is another big issue...probably $80-100 versus maybe $35-40.

But, IF i learn it and use it, the cost will easily be amortized over many years.

And really, Im even having problems with netflix because I do not have a smart phone. i cannot rearrange my list for gosh sakes.

Are there any free training courses for smart phones for someone who has never used one?

Ok, I may end up regretting it but I got a half way reasonable deal on a used go flip. With no charger.

Apparently I need a micro usb cable/charger which I think are cheap ...around 99 cents shipped from the US.

I doubt my 10+ year old Nokia charger will work for it.

If its that bad, I figure I can turn around & sell it and only lose $7-12.

Its not an easy call for me because I dread having to learn a smart phone. But, I had the same concerns about a laptop and I'm glad I got one.

I read a few more reviews, one of which says the battery dies after 2-3 days when off. If that is the case, It will NOT do for me at all.

If anyone could chime in on a very cheap micro usb charger, I would appreciate it. I found US sellers who have them for 99 cents.

I read 240 hours on standby which to me implies 10 days with the phone ON. If its off, shouldn't it last twice as long?

Phone will be here a day early. I need a charger. No deals around.

Does the dollar store carry them?

Best buy had a deal for $2 but its dead now. Walmart is $6.
