This was my first smart Thermostat. I've since owned Ecobee 3 and Nest 3. The Sensi is still my favorite for ease of use and my wife thinks it was the most accurate.

I never had any issue and have been buying on Rakuten for many years.

This is a solid basic WiFi thermostat, have 4 running on 3 years now. It can take power from heat and ac wires if a common wire is not available. Or you can also buy an external 24v power supply and wire in.

There were lots of issues with credit card fraud 4 or so years ago. I along with a lot of people swore off Rakuten at the time.

So I keep hearing about how the nest learns your habits? What about a situation where you have someone home a lot i.e. a stay at home wife? Is there much "learning" when your patterns are not patterns at all but very intermittent?

So I think I remember reading in a thread that these units will maintain a certain temp and automatically switch from Heat to A/C? If so that's exactly what I'm looking for

Yes there is an auto function that switches between heat and ac as needed to maintain a certain temp. Very useful when you are borderline spring/summer
