This is old news. If you had done a search "Amazon raising prices" you would have come across this: httphttps://slickdeals.net/f/11527531-amazon-increasing-prime-price-to-119-yr-5-11?v=1

It isn't worth more than $40-50/year to me, if that. Amazon's prices aren't very competitive anymore and the service is a very mixed bag, so I don't buy much there. We do own 8-10 shares of Amazon stocks though (yeah, I really can't recall how many since we got them for free and have no plans to sell them any time soon), so I hope others keep buying up Prime memberships. Pricing is almost always competitive on a large amount of items

Maybe not the absolute cheapest but definitely competitive

They will do just fine with the increase

I'll stay. I think Amazon has a better checkout process than any other site. It's so quick and easy. One clock buying, etc... I go all for convenience here. It's not necessarily about their prices.

I impulse bought a SlickDeals bike on Amazon for $200 a few weeks ago. The bike was a little small for me, so I dumped it on Craiglist for $400. It seems like most of the Killer deals you've got to pull the trigger fast. If you're wasting time worrying about fillers for shipping, it's gone.
If you know how to SlickDeal , Prime pays for itself many times over, IMO. Besides, you should've Gifted yourself a Membership to make the increase a moot point.

They have a $25 free shipping limit and your argument is that you got a good deal on a $400 bike for 200 and can't wait getting filler items lol? There is no way getting something in 3-5 days vs 2 is worth $100 let alone $120 dollars a year to anyone unless you just happen to need stuff quickly for whatever unknown reason.

Whether people want to pay a premium to get stuff faster is another matter, but if one is ordering a bike, cereal, cleaning supplies, etc, one can usually live with 3-5 day shipping (and here in NJ they show up in 2-3 days anyway, even without Prime most of the time).

Been that way ever since they sold out their customers on sales tax in many states to get property tax breaks. I buy very little from them ever since...mostly just subscribe and save items that are on sale. I can do better on most other things and not pay the sales tax.

They're required by law to collect sales tax in any state in which they have a physical presence. They have a physical presence in 29 states and 5 states lack a statewide tax, so it's only the people living in one of those 16 remaining states that really have anything to gripe about (since Amazon collects tax in those states even though they aren't required to do so).

That was ONE Amazon deal out of many, that I used as an example. That one deal paid for the next 2 years of Prime. With Prime, I can jump on any of the smaller Amazon deals I want without worrying about minimums. All those small deals easily add up to $100 savings. And then I use No-rush shipping, to get the credits.
If after 8 years on SD, you can't figure out how to make Prime pay for itself, I can't help you. SlickDealing's not for everybody. Some people get it, and plenty don't.

You still owe the sales tax whether the seller conveniently collects if for you or not. I prefer not having to worry about paying it later. Of course tax fraud or tax evasion is certainly one other option if you choose to accept the risk.Wink

That's interesting. How do you make sure no one uses anyone else's credit cards and I'm guessing everyone gets to see which items everyone else ordered, etc.?
