You need to buy a TV with a true 10-Bit color panel or deep color to get real full HDR10 playback. Because most of the budget 4K TVs only have 8-Bit color with 10-Bit color processing & thus can only display 16.7 million shades of color.

Which basically means that the HDR that those models can display is only a small percentage of the real thing. As where a 10-Bit color panel can reproduce just over a billion shades of color. Which is needed for true HDR10 playback.

Along with wide color gamut to take advantage of the enhanced color & contrast that true HDR10 brings. Trust me, real HDR10 is a far better advancement in picture quality than 4K resolution alone. Confirm that a TV has both a 10-Bit color panel & Wide Color Gamut before purchasing.

Also, look to see if the TV has an Ultra HD Premium certified logo on it. Which means that the TV meets both the standards for brighter whites, darker blacks & wider colors set by the UHD Alliance.

Which is a consortium of TV manufacturers, movie studios & technology companies. But the only TVs that are gonna meet those standards. Are TVs with enhanced black levels like OLED or LCD TVs with enhanced color & Full Array Backlight combinations.

If you don't want to go OLED because of price, I suggest getting a TV with a Quantum Dot panel & a Full Array Backlight. Like the upcoming 2018 TCL premium TVs. They have all the premiumness of a flagship model, but not the prices to match.

They are also Android TV based Smart TVs, which will save you from needing to purchase a separate Chromecast Ultra to watch 4K HDR10 movies from the Google Play Movies app. I'm sorry for the long reply, but you did ask how to get real HDR10 playback.

Also, I didn't say anything about Dolby Vision HDR because it's not on most TVs. Plus Dolby Vision HDR which looks really nice, isn't actually full HDR Dolby Vision either. HDR Dolby Vision is so far more advanced than HDR10, that to truly take advantage of it.

You would need a TV with a 12-Bit color panel, that can reproduce over 68 billion shades of color. Which doesn't actually exist commercially right now. OK, I'm done, sorry again for the super long reply.

The Sony 2016 X940D/ 2017 X940E are really good models as well. They have triluminos displays for enhanced/deep color & a Full Array Backlight for darker blacks. As well as Android TV OS for a large number of video streaming apps.

About a year & a half ago I decided on the 2016 LG 65" 4K HDR OLED Smart 3D TV. Which I bought off eBay from an authorized dealer for $2500 shipped. (OLED65C6P) LG Smart TVs use WebOS, which I think has the best user interface of all Smart TV OS's.

But doesn't have the wide array of video streaming apps that a Roku TV or Android TV based Smart TVs have. Which also only has the FHD 1080p version of the Google Play Movies app. So I had to dish out $69 for a Chromecast Ultra.

Because I am heavily invested in the Google ecosystem, along with Vudu since they typically charge far less for 4K HDR content. As well as use both HDR10 & Dolby Vision, which my LG OLED TV is one of the few OEM's that support both standards.

4K HDR streaming looks absolutely stunning, just imagine how much better physical 4K HDR Blu-rays look. I haven't actually seen in person what 4K HDR Blu-rays even look like. Since I can't ever wait to purchase one, cause I always end up getting the digital version because it releases earlier.

Also typically 4K HDR Blu-rays only come with digital HDX 1080p codes. Which sucks cause I want that convenience of streaming 4K HDR digital versions from anywhere I want at any time.

Coincidentally, I have yet to purchase Black Panther which is already out on digital, but comes out this Tuesday. Because it is only Disney's second 4K HDR Blu-ray release after Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

And I don't know yet if their going with the regular format that other 4K Blu-ray distributors use. Which is providing a digital download code that is for FHD only or for a much more wanted 4K UHD digital code. OK, sorry again, I'm out. Hopefully I gave you some knowledge that will make it easier for you to make an informed decision. Goodbye sir, or ma'am.

Walmart is clearing out the UN55MU6500 Curve 4K for $524. The MU6500 model supports HDR10 and comes with the Voice smart remote. Also has Bluetooth.

That's a horrible idea. Just get the TCL 55" for $500 at Best Buy deal unless you wanted a cheap curve TV. The picture quality of the tv is not close to be good.

Am I the only one in the world who thinks curved TVs are annoying and pointless? Frown

I love my TVs big, but not if the screen is curved. (current TV is a 65-incher)

Yeah, or the 55" S series for $340. I have the 49" S series from the $280 deal and it's amazing for those prices.
