Looks like if you are lucky and can find one with IMEI not starting with these, you might be able to unlock it for 2 or 3 bucks in eBay. Please correct me if I am wrong.

DO NOT PROCESS E4 IMEIs STARTING WITH: 353308088xxxxx or 353308089xxxxx or 354136090xxxxx - these are too new and are not in the database yet.

You sure about that? In the past, even unlocked E4 couldn't be used on VZ postpaid.
if you try to activate on postpaid account.that may be a policy issue.
I put my Verizon hotspot SIM card in the VZ prepaid E4+, it works fine , super fine to get internet... no unlocking needed .....

This was never at Walmart for $39. You are thinking of the Moto E4 .... this is the E4 Plus.
Oh OK, thanks for clarifying that, repped!

I may as well ask here, what's the cheapest/best budget phone right now that has T-Mobile Band 12? The E4 that I got for my mother is having tons of issues that I don't think are T-Mobile related.
For T-Mobile band 12 any newish unlocked MetroPCS phone. Maybe scour ebay. ZTE Blade zmax is great. Large and in charge.

Or this. unlocked compatible with any carrier.

my $29 purchased E4 all got unlocked ...money speaks
If you need a GSM phone purchase the Huawei elate at Best Buy. The specs are almost identical and the battery is unreal at 4,000 mAh.

If you try to use it on postpaid VZ they'll hotline your account (usually pretty immediate) and block the SIM from being able to connect, even if you move it back to the original phone. Only way to use a prepaid VZ on postpaid is to use it on prepaid, usually by activating it for at least a month (some have been able to swap in an active prepaid VZ SIM).
Wish I'd read this post earlier. My Nexus 5x bricked last night and I remembered I had the Moto E4 from the slick deal back in December, so pulled it out and inserted my Verizon SIM card. It worked to be able to call Verizon for help once, and then in the middle of that call the phone service stopped working. So you're saying even if I were to buy an unlock code, I would not be able to use this phone with my postpaid Verizon service?

Thanks for the clarification and sorry for seeming dense.

Whats Verizon's new unlock policy for the next time there is a deal for phones at Walmart ?

I know with the iPhone deal you only needed to activate it with a Verizon sim in does that still work or whats the new process for unlocking ?

Yup, the SIM lock only removes the limitation on the phone side (doesn't even need to be unlocked for use on VZ), have to pay VZ to get them to release it for postpaid on their system. You can get the hotline removed from your VZ SIM by calling in but it'll get locked as soon as you put it into that E4 again.
