Hmm older Gen 6 processor, LPDDR3 RAM, and on-board only Intel 520 graphics driving a 4k screen. I don't think battery life and/or performance will be good.

Curious how this would be with the res dropped to 1080/FHD... would have no use for 4K res in the situation I'd be buying for.

I used to have this laptop, but with the 1080p screen, but I sold it to buy the newer version. The newer one is smaller, thinner, lighter, smaller bezels but same screen size, and the keyboard is less squishy feeling. The new one also has Windows Hello, which is... interesting. No HDMI though, which is ok, bought a dongle.

It's WQHD (2560x1440) resolution, not 4K.

Tempted because Skylake (i.e. 6th Gen) is the newest CPU that will run on Windows 8.1 without nagging you that you have to upgrade to Windows 10.

Great price. I ordered one to replace the same model but the i7-5500u that I've been using for years. Better processor, graphics, ssd, etc. If you have larger hands you might like this more than the newer designs as this is large enough for your palms to rest on the laptop next to the touchpad. On the newer models your palms sit on the edge of the laptop and it digs into you.

This is a great deal. I have the 1080p version of this and it's great quality. I bought mine refurbished a year ago for 750 I think. It was clearly brand new, probably inventory clearing for the new model. It's still very quick. There is no need for the QHD version on such a small screen but it could make things look more crisp I guess... I have no idea what the Pro G2 means in the name however. Mine is the Spectre X360 with the same processor and ram in the 1080p variant. It can play certain games like Command and Conquer 3, I tried portal and it was pretty bad. C&C ran fine though. Please HD videos without issue and the touch screen is great. Battery life when it was new was well over 10 hours watching video or web browsing. It feels shorter now but idk, they also did that Meltdown and Spectre update so perhaps it hurt battery life...

The 360 degree design makes it excellent for watching a movie on a cramped plane. Speaking of which the TSA dropped mine from the belt to the floor and it was fine.

The only negative I can say is that it runs hot since it's all metal it gets uncomfortable to put it on your lap at certain points.

Would this be a good replacement for a 14 year old laptop with core 2 duo and 6gb of ram? Haven't been looking for 14 years and I'm not sure of what's good or not. TIA
I think so... But possibly not the best deal in the world.
