After hours and hours of research, Nest Hello is my favorite video doorbell in terms of functions and features. However, I purchased the $199 August Doorbell Cam Pro [august.com] a few days ago. The main reason is that I can't get myself to pay a subscription fee for a video doorbell.

Without a subscription, the Nest Hello offers for free 3 hours of snapshot history, whereas August offers 24 hours. Skybell [skybell.com]'s video doorbells offers for free a whooping 7 days, but the August seems like a better video doorbell to me.

$179.99 and includes a free Google Home Mini:

https://slickdeals.net/f/11592287-ebay-spend-150-get-google-home-mini-smart-speaker-free

Taxes are YMMV of course but for ~$6 I think it's a better deal.

How does the warranty work on these? Does it need to come from an authorized seller or something?

+1 to that. Charge a premium price for the hardware OR use it as a loss-leader for your ongoing subscription (that carries a high margin). Don't do both. I say that as someone who has happily used a Nest Thermostat for 3+ years now.

Awesome, thanks for this post! Repped!

Have been debating between the 2 and was leaning that way but I've heard the wiring can be a pain and didn't want to have to try both. I want one with HomeKit, and I think the August Pro is the only one that has it. I've also heard the Hello has issues with 30 minutes cooling-off periods, though imagine Nest will eventually fix that. Main thing I like about Nest cams in general is 24 hr streaming, but appears the Hello doesn't.

If you are considering the August Doorbell Cam Pro, they just sent out a 10% off code this morning (I haven't tried it): autounlock50

There's a chance you may get a 20% off code; for more information, click here to see a post I wrote last week.

I hope this helps,

Has anyone tried this? The "fine print" says the items must be purchased DIRECTLY from the Google eBay store. Not just by buying google products from any vendor on eBay for $150

I just bought it. Just add the google mini and use the code PFREEMINI and it should take the price of the mini off.

I just bought one as well with the free mini code. Seemed to go thru just fine.

If you don't mind me asking, how much is the subscription fee?

"Coupon applies to the purchase of one qualifying Google Home Mini (Qualifying Mini) direct from Google only."

That only applies to the Google Home Mini, the $150 can come from anywhere.
