The reviews on the Toshiba aren't encouraging... 😞 Lots of failed drives within a year.

The P300 is basically a rebranded HGST 7K3000 (Deskstar). In 2012 Toshiba acquired ownership of HGST's 3.5" drive manufacturing in a 3-way deal with Hitachi and Western Digital. Reliability should be equal to HGST.

And what would that reliability look like? What the reviews describe?

After reading the reviews on Newegg I get the feeling that Toshiba may have shot my dog.
Sites with hard data, such as Backblaze [backblaze.com], score the Toshiba drives not much worse than Toshiba drives in terms of failure rates. Their sample sizes for 3 TB drives is fairly small, so the data may be skewed. But it's probably the best resource available.

/HGST I agree. I run 8 of this drive and have installed a few more. None fail and speed rank 18/1000+ sata hdds. fast reliable and cheep. I suppose it does vibrate when spinning up, probably peoples number 1 complaint; seems normal to me. this is my go to drive. always avoid seagate.

Been using Toshiba drives for years. A bit on the loud side but never any issues.

Keep in mind if you are planning on running an OS on this drive, your mobo needs to support GPT/UEFI, otherwise MBR only supports up to 2TB...

Would it work well in a classic Mac Pro on the raid card?

Exceptionally disturbing reviews, and I'm normally a Toshiba fan.

Will this be a good addition for the LaView NVR? Have to set it up, but missing a drive...
Does it compare to the WD purple drives?
