It's not the best price on this mulch that I've seen (it's been as low as $2 per cu. ft) but it's the lowest price it's been in about a month and a half. Price are valid from May 17 through May 23. Not sure if the price is for specific regions or not but below is the link for the ad for the store in West Houston/Katy, TX.

Since I significantly underestimated the amount of mulch I needed to buy this year, I've been waiting for it to drop below $3.

Better than the regular price but it's usually available over memorial day weekend for $2/bag. There was a $2/bag spring sale beginning of April also.

I agree that the mulch is normally better but is definitely more of a pain. You have this giant pile of mulch that you then need to shovel into a wheel barrow, wheel to a location, and then shovel again(or dump if you are lucky). With the bags it can be much easier. I saw this last year in the elevated beds that I have.

If you have a menards, they have a cedar mulch (organic if that matters) for $1.89.

Also, when I bought mulch from home depot, the Manger told me that the 5 for $10 would return for Memorial day.

YMMV..

Get it now & do a price rewind if you have the Costco Citi card to avoid the crowds.

It's a price protection for 60 days offered by Citi, pretty easy to use on the credit card account.

I've quoted with 3 different yards in our area and the net price is actually within $10 unless I am buying more than a yard. I agree it's cheaper if I need a dump truck full, but otherwise the bags (on sale) are about the same and more convenient to move/store. Obviously YMMV - I thought the same thing as you and was surprised to find otherwise.
