How's the quality? Somewhere between BD and UHD-BD? Seems I could be waiting a long time for a deal on UHD Blu-Ray to hit below $100.

Is iTunes the cheapest source for 4k HDR movies? It seems they are regularly pushing free 4k updates to movies

If so, I may just have to bite the bullet and buy an apple tv. Been pretty happy with the Xbox one s however

You can watch these on the xbox if you do the following:
  • Buy the movies on iTunes
  • Link you iTunes account and Vudu account on moviesanywhere.com
  • Install the Vudu app on your xbox
  • The Harry Potter movies will show up on there

Cool, will it be 4k though?

That would be awesome if so.

Not sure myself, so if someone else can confirm from actual experience.
But from Apple's site:

About 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision versions

If you buy an eligible movie from a Movies Anywhere reciprocal service1 in 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision, you will be able to watch a matching quality version from the iTunes Store (as long as the same movie is available in 4K, HDR, or Dolby Vision from the iTunes Store).

Yes if you buy a 4k movie on iTunes it will transfer to MA with a 4k license and will be available on other services that also provide it in 4k where available.

I just noticed though that my Harry Potters from before have not been upgraded to 4k for free. I wonder why..

Thanks ashhong!

I bit the bullet myself and went ahead and grabbed Sorcerer's Stone and confirmed 4K license transferred through MoviesAnywhere through to Vudu.

Another thing to note for anyone who cares, only 1 & 2 (Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets) were actually shot in 4K. The rest are 2K and upscaled.

Did you buy them on iTunes. MA transfers into iTunes do not get the upgrade.

Nope. I've had this movie in iTunes for a very long time, before MA came around. I honestly don't even know how I got it though lol

did you buy the harry potters directly from itunes though? from what i've read, if you've just redeemed a code at itunes, and not bought directly from itunes, then it might not upgrade to 4k.

Honestly don't remember. However I was under the impression that even movies redeemed in iTunes through a blu-ray code will upgrade to 4k. All of my other movies have done that...oh well. It's just HP 6
