Where do you get codes like this?

This is plastic not aluminum. The reviews are mixed if not leaning towards the negative. Three or four people said it didn't work from the start or after some time.

Amazon offers a protection plan for $1.01. A window pops-up with the offer when you check-out. It says you allow Amazon to give information on pricing and something to be able to execute the plan to the company that services the plan. It mentions something about breakdown and malfunction. What would be fixable on this? Any part would cost more than $1.01. At $7+ after coupon it would be better for them to give you a new one instead of paying for parts and labor. The pop-up says you can cancel the plan for a refund within 30-days.

If you don't plug it into AC can you still use both the HDD and the ports?
Power from a laptop should be enough to spin the HDD. Power from the laptop should be enough to slowly charge devices via the ports on this thing.

It's $5.99 to ship it to my house. It's $8+ to ship it to an Amazon locker. I thought the locker maybe free but it costs more than to have it shipped to my door. The Amazon locker is a gas station in a town next to me I chose because I frequent the Starbucks next to it. Is there anyway other than Amazon Prime to get free shipping on this?

Thanks

The fact this isn't self powered kills this for me - have there been slickdeals for a good one that can self power? I have externals from 2008 that self power so this feels like a big step backwards, technologically speaking

Place an order over $25. So just find something else you may need, and order it with this

In for one. I bet it is self powered if you don't plug anything else in. But I like the option for this to be powered... Once I get it I'll keep y'all updated...

what do you mean? by battery?

powering a spinning hard drive can be hit and miss with a single port, esp if its usb2 and its a 7200rpm drive, variables they can't control with this.

I bought four of these and use them to house old small spinners to use for different purposes you do not have to use the included wall wart to power the device it will work just plugged into a USB3 port (BLUE USB PORTS)

Thanks for this. Cheapest I found for one of these at the moment. Don't have too much use for it except every once in a while so I don't care if it's durable.
