Seriously????? This has consistently been just under $100 during B.B. offer. Tax kills the deal.

Still waiting for another $99.99 deal. It happened constantly after release (end of 2017), but I don't believe it's hit that price once in 2018.

No USB port for direct HDD recording? Why would they do that?
It's a hassle dealing with NAS or other nonsense. I don't mind paying 100-120 but not being able to record easily (even though they charge per month for DVR service) is a deal breaker for me.

I hate that I have to pay my cable company for DVR per month (both service and box) and honestly I am about to get rid of that, but I don't want to pay $500 up front to Tivo either, not to mention we still have to pay for cable card rental.

I hope Sling improves their channel line up and cloud DVR so we can just pick the channels we want to watch/record. On-Demand is BS since they don't keep all seasons.

Any suggestions/input or existing discussion for cable cutters?

PS: I used HDHR Dual for 2,5 years with Windows Media Center and it was the best tuner I had, but since WMC no more, I am a-sad.

WMC was the best method. They tanked that to bring about a fraction of the functionality on the xbox. I still use my years old HDHomerun Dual. I have been using a HTPC with NextPVR to do the scheduling and recording, zap2xml to download tv listings from tvguide.com or zap2it.com, and regular old VLC to watch everything. I appreciate the ethernet port, so more devices can connect. Anything with VLC can watch the stream, so I'm not limited to OS's with the proper driver. Of course recording then commercial skipping is so superior to live watching that I really only use my Windows HTPC.

you don't need a NAS, all you need is a computer on the network with the DVR service installed and it will record to where ever you want (local computer drive, etc).

SiliconDust DVR service is also not needed, you can install NextPVR or even buy a Plex pass and use that to manage your recordings. much better than Silicondust overpriced DVR "service".. even at half price of what it used to be is still stupid to have to pay for continuously every year as some kind of service when all it does is record to a disk with a lousy UI. it's kind of absurd they charge you every year for this.. I wouldn't have mind a one time fee..

If you want all in one box that can share recorded content to other devices Tablo might be the best fit for you. Live TV kind of struggles but recording is perfect. You'll have to pay for the guide.

If you only have one screen take a look at Android TV. Free guide and DVR is provided via Live Channels.

HDHR is perfect for those of us that already have the plex server with plex pass. I picked up the refurb connect dual for $35 or so and am very happy with it.

I have seen these for sale often. What are the benefits of the HDHomeRun devices? Trying to see if this device would be useful for me.

I paid for WMC when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro and kept another pc at Windows 7 for backup just to keep using my Home Run to record a bunch of old shows.

I still use Windows Media Center on an Intel NUC everyday. Works fine on Windows 7! :-) Windows 7 has support into 2020 from Microsoft and Windows 8.1 has support to 2023 if I remember correctly. I use it with an HDHomeRun Prime and Comcast pays ME to rent the cable card. I get a $2 credit every month for using a cablecard instead of their equipment.
