New MacBooks are coming in June, so the older ones are likely to get marked down further, if you can wait.

Personally wouldn't spend $1,000 on any Mac with only 128gb ssd. That is very little space after you get the Apple applications and a few others on there.

I would avoid buying any MacBook Pro until they fix the keyboard issue. Reports indicate the failure rate is more than double of all previous existing MacBook Pros. Because of the way they're made now, a failing keyboard means they have to replace the entire bottom of the unit which adds hundreds of dollars to repair fees. I was looking into a MBP but I'm staying away until the next revision.

I think it makes more sense to buy this way than to pay for overpriced Apple storage costs. Secondary market storage is incredibly cheap.

Storage isn't soldered in?

It depends. You are right that is cheap but the Apple SSDs have great speed and it is a shame to sacrifice that for most files.

im on my second Pro, half of the keyboard stopped working after 8m. 5-7 day turnaround on the repair, unacceptable for a $2k machine.
