But J500j is super energy efficient.
And the small form factor of NUC is very versatile feature.

Never said he was. Simply pointing out that it is lacking on this unit. I imagine alot of people are getting these NUC's to hook up to their shiny new 4K/HDR TV's in the living room.

No HDR support on this unit.. Frown

"The only letdown here is that Intel will not support HDR on Gemini Lake NUCs. You will need to get at least an i3 NUC in order to play HDR videos in Windows 10. However, there are some indications that the Gemini Lake hardware itself could actually be HDR capable, it's just that there's no HDR capable Windows driver for it."

I got the Celeron one for $90 few weeks ago. It's capable to do most of the daily job, this quad core one will be even better.

I have a plex server that i use for housing all my data. Would this box be able to directly play 4k video? The plex server could handle transcoding if needed.

If it is h 264 or h 265, it will be fine. I doubt you find 4k videos in any other format anyway.

What OS did you put on it? Besides Windows I am having issues with Ubuntu as far as getting it to install. The video driver for Windows freezes on install.

Arch Linux with ck-silvermont optimized kernel. There are some driver issues with LiveCD, even Arch LiveISO. You need to set "nomodeset" kernel parameter for booting to bypass the video. After installation, upgrade the kernel to the latest one, I am currently running 4.16.9 without any issues. Use kernel modesetting driver, don't use intel i915 driver

So I'm not the only one having the problem with the graphics driver installing on windows? I ended up using a librelec kodi build on mine.

Thinking of getting something like this for a college kid. Easy travel, small footprint, etc.
