Looks like this is the price every day at Home Depot and Lowe's. Many bad reviews on H.D.'s website. I'm not a fan of G.E. at all but cheap price for front loader.

I just ordered the set via Costco.com. Same price as everywhere else, but includes a 2nd year of warranty, as well as haulaway and install. And the SQ Warranty to extend to 5 years for BOTH units is $150 - about the price at all the other retailers for just one.

They deliver tomorrow. As long as they wash my clothes, I can't imagine I'll complain.

What brands are more reliable? I've read LG washers are the way to go, but may not have the best stain removal. Plus the LG sets with pedestals get pricey

According to Consumer Reports, Estimated breakage rate by the 5th year of ownership:

LG - 14%, Kenmore (typically made by Whirlpool) - 17%, Maytag - 17%, Electrolux and Samsung - 18%, Whirlpool and GE - 20%, Frigidaire - 25%.

In CR's ratings, Maytag machines scored the best, followed by LG. I know several people who have LG and are very satisfied. Yesterday, I was at Lowe's trying to find a washer to replace the crappy Maytag top loader I am returning. The man that helped me said they sell more Maytag than other brands. Maytag is assembled in the USA and parts may be more readily available than for imported brands, such as LG.

I have been told by many appliance retailers, "Do not buy a Samsung appliance...period." I know a lady here that has a Samsung top-load washer. She is very happy with it. She said it does a good job washing her husband's clothes. He trains horses for a living so you know his clothes are dirty.

In Consumer Reports ratings, front load washers are rated much higher than top load washers. Of course, front load washers have their own issues: can be very expensive, esp. if you buy the pedestals, can have mold or mildew issues, door can leak, etc.

Like I said, I'm currently trying to figure out what machine to buy. It's a crap shoot.

I hope this info. helps you.

Forgot to mention...Yesterday, when I was at Lowe's, a store employee told me she had a G.E. front loader and hated it. She got a Maytag top loader to replace it. She actually told me in front of a manager, "Do not buy a front loader" when the manager was talking to me about an LG front loader. Of course, the lady had a G.E. front loader, so it's no surprise to me that she was not satisfied with it. I would never buy a G.E. product, period.

The Maytag that I have now that's going back to the store on Wednesday is the MVWC565FW top load "washer" if you can call it a washer.

Not sure what's going to replace it. Maybe the Maytag commercial top loader, MVWP575GW. Traditional agitator, no frills, 5-year parts and labor warranty. There are videos on youtube. It's a beast like you would see at a laundromat. Uses plenty of water.

I really don't think a front loading washer is going to work in our utility room. Probably not enough room if you take into account that you have to leave the washer door open most of the time.
