best way to put it is: this is a fitness watch with smart watch functionality whereas the Samsung Gear S3 is a smart watch with some fitness functionality.

If you have to ask, this is not for you. This is a watch geared towards triathletes looking for training metrics.

How long do Fenixes last vs a Forerunner? Do they have longer warranties?

These are specialized activity tracker vs gear s3 is a regular smart watch, if you are not into running/biking/swimming/hiking or any such sports, go for gear s3.

Is this actually a good deal or is it better to wait? Which configuration is the best deal?

The battery life on the watch is amazing. Close to two weeks on a single charge with daily workouts for just over an hour.

I've owned to Fenix 5 for a couple weeks now, and I'm generally happy with the watch and it's functionality; however, when I'm doing workouts that cause the watch to move around on my wrist (yes, the band is tight around my wrist), I've noticed that the HRM isn't 100% accurate. As someone said before this is intended to be a triathlete's tool, so if you're into weightlifting, Crossfit, or some other exercise routine that's not running, biking, or swimming, this device may not be 100% accurate. I'm considering a chest strap to dial my workout metrics in. Hope this helps.

Chest strap is typically a better metric, regardless. Wrist measuring should be used more as a convenience or to test the waters of usinf hrm, but if it's really necessary to your training, chest strap is always going to be superior.

Can anyone breakdown the differences between performer multi sport and Sapphire editions?

Yeah, sapphire had a sapphire screen (the crystal is stronger) and it comes with a metal band. Same size, same functionality. You can replace the bands with metal from Amazon for about $20.

Only difference truly is the 5s to all of the rest as it is physically smaller. For most women and men with generally smaller wrists, go for the 5s.

As for the wrist hrm, it's good enough for tracking steps, daily heart rate while doing most activities, and the best of all, tracking your strength workouts. You put in the weight later or directly after each set, but it will count reps and heart rate as well as body temperature for fairly accurate net calorie counting.

I swim with the chest strap (any will work so long as it's waterproof but the Garmin one is no fuss). You have to baby it a little unto you get used to it or you'll roll the strap off every time you flip turn. Aside from that you get extremely reliable measurements.

I pair my watch with the free version of my fitness pal, and once you use it for a few weeks, you typically have the correct items selected every time you go to input your meals.

Smart functionality of the watch is great, though I would like the ability to type responses back from the watch instead of just reading the messages. Makes my Lyft trips a breeze :bzzz bzzz: your ride is here. Haha
