My parents asked me to find them a PC for word processing, browsing, etc. Any suggestions on this vs. the $600 Lenovo from Costco?

This is cheaper and is more than enough power for word processing. I would say this or some other i3 machine.

You could spend less than this. There is no reason to buy anything more powerful than this

I bought this Acer model from Newegg a couple of months ago. Acer shipped it with invalid Windows 10 product key. Took them 3 weeks to rectify the problem. Beware.

Same thing happened to me last month on an Acer from Newegg. However I just called MS and they activated it for me. Took about 20 to 30 mins and talking to 2 different people but not terrible. I wouldn't pass up a deal because of it.

This would be awesome if it came with an additional storage drive. Only 256gb is no good unless you keep everything in the cloud imo.

This is slightly better primarily due to the included solid state drive which makes computer processing tasks quite ultra uber fast compared to the glacial pace of conventional hard drives; I will have to say honestly after having personally brought and used both a desktop and notebook computer; I will never ever buy a computer with a conventional mechanical hard drive again as they are simply to slow; a computer system can only be as fast as its slowest component which is usually ones hard drive unfortunately; another advantage is one can easily attach another larger solid state drive to ones Acer very easily and affordably as one can attach a 512gb ssd drive for as little as $120 slick deals pricing if timed right also as well.

Get them a chromebook if all they need is browsing and document editing. Way cheaper and basically impossible to break/mess up/infect the OS. If they want a bigger screen just get an external monitor and hook it up.

Acer, generally speaking, is hell for drivers and long-term support of its Windows products and has been for its entire existence. Their Chromebook offerings are better, and there's one posted right now for under $200: https://slickdeals.net/f/11610431-acer-chromebook-14-refurbished-1920x1080-n3160-4gb-32gb-wifi-ac-ssd-173-free-s-h
