Great stethoscope. However not good for medical students or anyone who does pediatrics due to lack of small bell.

'Low grade health providers'? I actually agree with your product review but your description of highly educated and trained persons such as PAs, RNPs and RNs is way off the mark...and rude.

How effective this stethoscope is? It's awesome and for this price it's not a huge loss when it gets lost or stolen.

Indeed. Better off spending $20 extra ($89) and getting the 3M Littmann 5803, also from Amazon. Definitely a better purchase all things considered.

There's a cheaper Littman stethoscope that works well also. I forgot the model number/name but usually runs for $40.

That's what I usually do. Just steal them from my doctors office.

These types of stethoscopes are nice because they save a lot of time. To hear low frequency sounds like mitral stenosis or S3 you apply more pressure, to hear higher frequency blood pressure (kerkhoff) sounds, you apply light pressure. Yeah it's hard to get used to as a student but once you do you don't have to waste time flipping the scope over all the time. I feel like this is a good price for this stethoscope.

Someone doesn't know how to use a stethoscope then.....
I got yelled at at my peds rotation because I didn't have a small diaphragm, I had lost it since I always just used it as a bell.

New med students: you can try applying for a free stethescope from the Jason Madachy Foundation link [jasonmadachyfoundation.org]

I have this stethoscope. Littman is the best. I had my first one for over 4 years before the tubing started to crack. I'm an RN and this works by applying pressure but I wish I had replaced it with the one with the small bell I had before as I do at least 70-100 assessments a day and it can be annoying when your hand interferes in hearing quickly and well. Because your hand goes on the back of the diaphragm, and not on a second bell on the back, it can cause noise. My next will be the Littman Lightweight Classic II SE, which starts at $35 before tax after you apply the code and go to checkout.
