The design is based on scientific principles, not for aesthetics. The waveguide basically makes the high frequency compression driver act as a much larger driver and gives it even directivity. This series of speakers sounds phenomenal outside of the sweet spot. I have many better speakers at my disposal, but these are terrific for any environment where intelligibility and off axis performance are attributes you desire. They don't lack a ton from better speakers, but they are pretty big improvements from lower quality speakers.

I have this speaker. It's very good. The compression tweeter makes for a very large sweet spot.

Yes. I wanted matching drivers for my 5.1 speakers. It was... fine.

Not sure if I should upgrade. Currently pairing the old studio series S center with the 590. Please advise.

Which studio s? The real old ones? I still have the s12.

But yes, upgrade... or at least compare. When I upgraded from my oldskool studio s I heard the difference. So did my half deaf father in law.

You get mid & bass from that unit even though I have a dedicated sub-woofer. The sound quality is exceptional...A very crisp and clear sound!
