I saw this in the ad and got excited until I realized it was refurbished Frown

At least that's what it states in the ad but I don't see refurbished on the actual product page.

"Refurbished to original factory condition" -- That's a bold claim, and a lawsuit waiting to happen.

These are not Refurbished at all. There's not such thing for hard drives.
These are "server pulls" that have powered and running in a server somewhere for the last 3-5 years.
The server companies pull these after some time like 3 years and sell them in mass to re-sellers.
The re-sellers have pallets and pallets of these and don't clean or test any of them.
You, the people who buy them are the cleaners and testers

Deskstars are not server class hard drives. I highly doubt these are server pulls. The Ultrastar deals that pop up on newegg pretty regularly certainly are server pulls. Ultimately you shouldn't really trust any drive at all and should have backups as any drive can fail and if you do have a good backup setup a refurbished drive shouldn't be any more risky than any other drive.

Although this deal is dead... I would never touch a Deskstar drive again. I picked up 2 on a deal years ago, full warranty. Both drives failed after 8 months, got replacements for warranty, one died AGAIN after 6 months, the other was DOA... Ended up getting a bigger drive that lasted 2 years and just died a few weeks ago.... the other one died after about 1 year...warranty or not, I just dumped it. Not worth losing data on again.

I am glad there is no more Deskstar hard drives in ANY of my machines....
