I've ordered several things from Rakuten without issue.

Looks like HP makes them based on 3rd party components, using Micron 384Gbit 32-layer 3D TLC chips and Silicon Motion controllers (The SM2258XT for the S700 and the SM2258 for the S700 Pro).

Main difference between the S700 is a DRAM-less design so it's overall slower and doesn't do as well under sustained reads/writes. Good for a budget-drive though as it keeps em nice and cheap.

These keep popping up. Get the Pro version if you can. I have both the Pro and non-Pro versions and have had zero problems with the drives.

Spent a couple bucks more on the PRO model IMHO. It was just on sale at Walmart. Didn't check to see if that's still going on. Several people on that deals discussion recommended Crucial brand due to its reviews as well as a 5 year warranty.

Rakuten is the parent company of E b a t e s... i'm sure its reputable, i have also ordered from them before. They are like Sears' website where they have third party sellers thats most of the reason for inconsistency in products and shipping.

I bought the 2TB micron ssd from Rakuten for $270, no tax, and am pleased with my purchase. The track shipping didn't work so it had me worried at first, since I had never used them before, but I received my order sooner than they stated at checkout. Also on userbenchmark.com it said my ssd scored in the 71st percentile for ssds so I'm very happy overall with them. Bought 2.5 months ago.

When shopping there, I would check the ratings of the individual sellers before buying though, not Rakuten, since they are the "middle man" kinda like amazon, but not amazon.

I've made many orders through them, even back when they were Buy.com, and I've had nothing but good experiences. Their free shipping is fast too!

After buy.com was acquired, there was a data breach and lot of credit cards had large fraudulent charges and hence the negative reviews. Using PayPal might be the safest option
