Does this mean after 3 points for the first $300 travel category it would only earn 1 point for $1? If that's the case I'm cancelling the card once the annual fee is up!

No it means you won't get any points for the first $300 spent on travel. And will continue to earn 3 points per $1 thereafter.

Nope. Dollars 1-300: no points
Everything after 300: 3x points

So basically, no double dipping by getting points on dollars that get credited back to you.

This- basically the card generates you 900 points less per year, roughly $15.

I don't like it but I have to say I was surprised that you did earn points on these purchases in the first place.

Price protection on this card specifically is no great loss, it is not a good card for everyday purchases that you would want adjustments on anyway. However I think they also have dropped it from Freedom unlimited (someone correct me?) which sucks.

Reduced guests is also good for me because it means less people in the lounges/restaurants, but i do feel for families of 4.

That just means families of four will need to get authorized user cards for the spouse (and pay $75). I'm not surprised at this change. If people didn't abuse it, and only bring 3 or 4 once in a while, I doubt there would have been a change, but we've read stories online about a person bringing in 10-15 guests from a business meeting.

was literally just about to apply for this card to replace my AMEX SPG.

Like earlier said, I guess loosing price protection is not as huge of a deal as this card would normally be reserved for travel expenses only. We are a family of 4 traveling this summer, so it looks like we'd be ok for this summer's trip but nothing there after.

I understand the other changes but the 3x on the first $300 travel spend... so they are saving 900 UR per member? equal somewhere between $9 and $18?
Congrats Chase on these MASSIVE savings.

Multiplied by millions of cardholders, yeah, pretty big numbers.

Annual fee for $450 multiplied by millions of carholders is a way bigger number...

They needed to crack down on the multiple guests at the lounges. The lounges have become just as packed as regular waiting areas for flights, and it has really taken the quiet enjoyment out of the experience.

I get it that people have families, so do what me and my wife do - get two accounts. We easily make up for the $150x2 fee ($300 gets spent on travel way too easy) between being able to take the family in the lounge, dining out, etc.

You're going to cancel your card over losing out on 900 points?
