Tracfone is great for low bandwidth users that have access to wifi. Remember new tracfones no longer have triple minutes.

It is possible, but not super simple.

If I remember correctly, you need to transfer all from your old phone to new phone, wait a day or two and transfer back to your original phone.

Most times it goes smoothly. There are stories of people who have lost all their old minutes or new minutes in the transfers.

To protect yourself you'll need to open a chat with them ahead of each move and ask them to give you a count of your minutes, gb, texts, etc and save it. Then if things go wrong and any is lost, contact their corp office in Florida to get it straightened out.
Search prior postings if you need more details.

It's a pay as you go plan. You can add 1000 texts for $5 or 1gb data for $10 anytime. Minutes seem to be a little harder to add because they're sold in bundle plans with texts & data, but there are deals that pop up from time to time.

Easier way to accomplish this is to go online and add $5 worth of texts. The next page ( unless they've changed it) gives an option to add a yr of service for $50.
In past some have reported being able to delete the $5 texts in the cart.

How does tracphone unlocking work?
Seems like most other carriers will unlock after 1 year.
Can the bundles that have 365 days of service be unlocked immediately, or can it be unlocked after 365 actual days?

If you don't want to deal with the phone switching hassle, you can spend a little more on this Ebay deal and get 1 year of service plus 1500 minutes, 1500 texts & 1.5gb data for $76 (normally $125 through Tracfone).

I bought this a few weeks ago for 3 phones & it was applied to them within 24 hours. You just have to provide the seller with your Tracfone #.

Unlocking policy is after 1 year of active service & Android 6 will be even more out of date by then - (Tracfones don't get software updates).

Got my mom the sky pro one for Xmas. It works well enough for her. She does very basic web browsing, snapchat, texts and calls. No major complaints other than it randomly dropping calls lately, but I don't think it's still doing it.

If I use this mainly as a home phone on wifi, will it still eat up the minutes and texts or can I get "free" minutes and texts via wifi?

as long as you use wift calling via app such as hangouts using google voice you should not be charged as long as you are on wifi
