This is the new standard pricing from what I've been told at both Lowe's and Home Depot. I bought one on this deal as soon as they marked the price down. Still pricey, but good deal at $400 if you've already bought into the nest system.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass. But can someone explain or justify the $399 price tag? I have never seen this before and checked t out on the link.

Seems like it comes with two motion detection for windows/door?

Does this also require a subscription to work properly? Thanks.

I might pick this up. I have the ooma home system and they are very slow to bring out features that I really want. If I can remember correctly, the Nest motion sensors are also cameras. I could be wrong

Have you ever used a managed security system before? You'd be be out way more than $400 every year.

yes you would most probably be right, but the coverage in terms of windows/doors/motion would be more and they monitoring than just an app.

I am sure Nest will come up with a service model for this too (if not already existing). so it wont be just 400$

Branding is what it comes down to mainly. Any product released by Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc. is basically being marketed as "premium."

TU just because i had no clue home systems have evolved so much. Being a first-time home buyer hopefully soon, this at least gives me something to think about vs. the traditional managed system.

No I haven't. If you don't mind, can you explain what a managed security system is?

Looked into this system recently and eBay had them for under $350 brand new. Not sure if that's still the case.

You ever see commercials for Simplisafe or ADT? ADT mails things to my house every couple months. So they're basically systems that setup and you pay a monthly fee ranging from $10-40 a month. Basically someone is on the other end to call cops etc for you. Simplisafe is closer to this. It does not involve a installer coming to your house etc and is self install and expandable. Some of the ones with high monthly fees have zero to low upfront costs. But contracts involved etc. While other have very low monthly but larger upfront costs. This is along the higher upfront and lower monthly model.
