COMPARISON: https://www.amazon.com/b/?ie=UTF8...fs_erdr_cp

SAVE EVEN MORE (Only $50 for Paperwhite): There is an additional $40 off with AMEX MR points usage (like the Fire deal). May be targeted, But I looked at the script on the page with the AMEX promo button and the the promo code may be code not working
Quote :
"kindle40",
if anyone who doesn't get the offer banner wants to try. (Don't forget to use some MR points to activate the code.)

Go to amazon.com/kindle [amazon.com]to activate $30 off regular kindle and $40 off paperwhite. Then add both kindles to the cart, use 1 MR points: Somehow it discounted me $80 instead of $70 so 2 kindles for 59.98 + tax ApplauseApplause

Order Summary
Items (2): $139.98
Shipping & handling: $0.00
Reload promotion: -$6.31
Paperwhite Promo: -$80.00
Total before tax: $53.67
Estimated tax to be collected: $5.23
Total: $58.90
Rewards Points: -$0.01
Order total: $58.89

If you still have the 3G, make sure to submit a trade-in request so that you can get an additional 25% off these prices!

Yessss, my 3g kindle just broke a few days ago, and I saw in CCC that the paperwhite's price fluctuates frequently and decided to wait. Glad I did, thanks!

If this is your first time getting a kindle, check eBay for older generations. I was able to get a Kindle Touch WiFi with No ads for $30 shipped. I also wanted text to speech support which the Touch has and these don't.

Which generation of paperwhite would this be? I've been thinking of getting an used one but I'm confused about the generations. Also, is there a big difference going one or two generation older?

Is there a way to disable ads?

Seeing ads while reading is really annoying and takes your focus away from the book.

I've never found the ads intrusive although it's true I've never found them useful either but such a minor inconvenience hardly worth going to any trouble to get rid of them. the ads are only offered when the device is turned on or wakes up never during reading.

Thank you!

By active user who spends - do you mean spending specifically on books or overall spending on Amazon?

I don't buy books from Amazon, but make a lot of item purchases from Amazon (clothes, electronics, household items, etc).

Still rocking my Kindle Keyboard. I can't bring myself to upgrade and not have buttons for turning the page.

But the 3g model isn't even listed there...

Edit... I assume you meant third generation, not the model with free 3g.
